Dice games offer a fantastic combination of learning and fun, and are a cheap and easy way to help kids develop critical thinking, maths skills and social interaction abilities. There are lots of other benefits to playing with dice too:

  • Dice games are a cheap way to keep the kids entertained for hours on rainy days.
  • You can play dice games almost anywhere! Dice are easy to take with you when you’re travelling – all you need is a table or even the floor!
  • Dice games can be introduced to children at a very young age, beginning with easy counting games at around 3 or 4 years old. Once your kids are a little older, you can try more complex activities and strategy games.
  • Does your child find mathematics challenging? Dice games can help make learning numbers, counting, addition, and multiplication fun and interactive. To practise multiplication or addition facts, roll two dice together then multiply or add the numbers.
  • You can play dice games by yourself, in a small group or even in a large classroom or at a party. They’re ideal for encouraging social interaction and teamwork and breaking the ice.
  • Dice games are perfect if you’re looking for a fun replacement for screen time.

Fun Fact: Humans have been playing dice games for at least 5000 years, and they were popular with both the ancient Egyptians and the Romans. The first six-sided dice date back to 3000 BCE, and were made by chipping away at animal bones using tools.
