What’s Included In This Guess The Riddle Game Package

  • There are over 200 riddles on printable cards, so it’s not a one and done, forgotten in the cupboard game.
  • There are tons of different riddles to explore and solve, each at a different level of difficulty. Some of the riddles are easy enough for nursery aged children to solve, while others are a bit longer and suited for older primary aged children.
  •  You can mix and match them depending on your child’s current vocabulary level so that each time they get an answer, they feel excited and proud.
  • Each card is a colorful blue sky and green grass landscape with easy to read text. The riddles are clear and descriptive, which helps children visualize the answer.
  •  Also included is the scoreboard with room for each player’s name and plenty of boxes available to tick off as the riddles are solved.

How To Play:

There are two different ways you can play, both of which can suit different playing styles and ages.

  • The first is a more traditional game style where you roll dice. Lucky number six is what you’re hoping for here!
  • If you throw a six, pick a card from the stack.
  •  The riddle is read out loud, and if you’re able to guess it correctly, score! You get a point that goes on the provided scoreboard.
  • We like to put a big checkmark in the box, but a tally mark or an X works just fine too. Whoever gets the most points, wins.

We found the dice method well suited for younger players who need more time to think over the riddle’s clues. Bonus for using dice? Encouraging math skills, as counting the dice is a simple and effective way to practice addition. The difficulty level is perfect for both nursery and primary aged students as the riddles provide helpful context and descriptive words.

The other way to play, which my family enjoyed immensely, is competing against each other without time to ponder the answer. One person serves as the caller, and the others answer as fast as they can before someone else figures it out. In my household, it quickly became a laughing fest as everyone shouted over each other. Freddo’s were on the line, so we were all very determined to win!

Helpful hint: Older children can easily play this game alone or with their younger siblings, which means this is a great opportunity for them to tell you something new. We love seeing our children excited about learning!

Benefits Of Playing:

There are so many positives to solving riddles. Working out an answer to a riddle encourages comprehension, logical thinking, and problem-solving, all of which are critical thinking skills that are crucial for children to learn. The early years are an important time for children’s development, and games like Guess the Riddle help to nurture and support this.

Concentration:

Concentration is another key skill that is critical as children go through school. Solving riddles are a cheerful way to encourage this, as it requires patience and time to figure out. Developing this skill early will help foster their ability to reason, which is important for everyday life.

Creativity:

Riddles also boost creativity! They can force us to think outside the box to solve them, as the answer is sometimes hidden in plain sight. Thinking of ideas and new concepts differently encourages children to approach real-life problems from all kinds of angles, which will benefit them in the classroom and beyond.

Did you know riddles encourage humour too? Riddles can be silly and funny, and the ones in this game certainly are. Kids are more likely to recall a fact if they associate it with something memorable.

Riddles also help us learn. Sometimes they even stump grown-ups! If we don’t know what the answer is to a riddle, it provides a quick and easy way to learn more knowledge. Here’s a great sample from Guess the Riddle Game

Learning with Confidence:

Riddles are also great for building confidence. As a parent, it’s so satisfying when you see your child’s face light up in anah-ha! moment when they figure out the answer. Confident children are more likely to not only perform well academically but succeed in all areas of life. Children who feel smart are more likely to feel confident in raising their hands in class and taking positive risks. These riddles will contribute to their confidence as they solve each one, which will positively influence other areas in their life.

Riddles can also be a great resource for children whose primary language is not English. Guess the Riddle cards are perfect for ESL learners, as they can be laminated and used in either the classroom or at home to supplement their learning. Using the context clues in the riddle will help them recall vocabulary in a fun and easy way.
